A solemn event on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation was held by the All-Ukrainian Non-Governmental Organization "Association of Wives and Mothers of Soldiers Participating in ATO" at the Kyiv City Council.

On this day, people all over the world traditionally remember those who perished for peace and quiet life for their children during the Second World War. However, today, when we are fighting the invader in our country for the fourth year, the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation is of a particular importance. That is why our goal was to honour the mothers of the fallen soldiers who defended Ukraine's independence in the East.

During the event, Vitaliy Klitschko, the Kyiv mayor, gave gratitude letters to 73 mothers for bringing-up warriors-defenders. Moreover, the military who showed their courage and bravery in the Donbass war was posthumously awarded the medals "Honour. Glory. State".

"There is a war in Ukraine nowadays. Unfortunately, it is still going on, and the best Patriots of our state are dying. Opposing the Russian aggression, 336 Kyivites participating in ATO gave their lives. Totally more than 25 thousand of Kyiv citizens took part in ATO. Young boys, middle-aged and quite elderly people, in their best times and the hardest times for the country, did not retreat and sacrificed their own lives in order to build the country they dreamed about.

You have brought up your sons as true patriots of their own country. You brought up the Heroes whom not only our city, but the whole country are proud of. After all, a person is not born goodhearted. This feature is brought up with values and beliefs. Thank you for giving part of your hearts to your sons. Thank you for everything that you did and continue to do" - said Vitaliy Klitschko.

Yuriy Butusov, a journalist, and editor-in-chief of the Tsensor.net site took the floor. He thanked mothers of the ATO fighters for bringing up children, for bringing them up so patriotic and sacrificial.

"I am very glad that you have found strength and came here today. Because the very thing which unites us, for which your loved ones gave their lives is a new country and a new society. And for the sake of this, it is worth living. This is what should be stored and transmitted. When there is an opportunity to gather, exchange views, remember the Heroes, and not to remain alone with the loss, it needs to be done. "

After the solemn part, the Ukrainian band "Haydamaky" made a performance for the guests of the event.

The event was held with the financial support of Darnitsa pharmaceutical company, Sviato Pokrovskiy (Holy Protection) Charitable Fund, Stolichny market, Kamelia flower shop and Rosinka factory.
