Round Table on Mother's Day

On May 16, Kyiv hosted a round table on the occasion of Mother's Day.

The event was attended by members of Parliament, prominent women of Ukraine, mothers of fallen Heroes from all regions of Ukraine, representatives of Ukrainian and international women community, representatives of Presidential Administration of Ukraine, Cabinet of Ministers, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social Policy, Ministry of Youth and Sports, National Academy of Medical Sciences, representatives of foreign embassies in Ukraine and religious organizations.

The roundtable participants discussed urgent problems of Ukrainian women, strengthening the role of modern women in the social and political, economic life of the country, in strengthening the family, spreading peace culture, building a socially fair society based on Christian values, reviving the spirituality and culture of our nation.

According to Victoria Kravchuk, the Head of Kyiv Division of the NGO "Association of Wives and Mothers of soldiers participating in ATO", it is important to conduct a full medical examination for all women who lost their children in the war. This initiative has gained support from all those present.

Proposals to amend and add to the current legislation were made in order to strengthen the institution of maternity and child protection and women's rights in Ukraine.

In addition, representatives from NGOs from Turkey, Syria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Netherlands, Portugal, Japan who lost their children in the war, and women from other countries who have faced similar problems participated in the round table. They shared their own experience on peacekeeping activities of women, on spreading peace culture and on a role of women in the civil society.
